Black Friday Battle

11/23/18 @ Noon - Wilmington Knights of Columbus

112 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, MA 01887

This Holiday Season you have a choice to fill shopping bags or toss some bags with us in Wilmington! Introducing the Black Friday Battle that adopts the popular swap meet format with a twist. This event guarantees each player six matches with multiple partners. A double-elimination bracket follows group play and champions will be crowned.

Group Play

Players are randomly sorted into groups of four, five, or six. Once groups are assigned, competitors follow a schedule in which they swap partners each match. The winners of each match are awarded the point differential of the score (you may not exceed 21). For example, if Player 1 and Player 2 defeat Player 3 and Player 4 by a score of 21-15, then the winners earn 6 points for the match; the losers do not receive any points. The schedule provides each player with a minimum of six matches. With a group of five, two players will complete seven matches and have his or her lowest score dropped. At the conclusion of group play, the sum of each player's points are calculated. The top two point earners advance into the elimination bracket. If two players are tied after group play and only once can advance, the player with the most wins will advance. If a second tie-breaker is required, then they will square off head-to-head in a sudden-death playoff. The first player to score, advances. Note that point differential is key and it is possible, although rare, to not lose a match and still not advance.

Elimination Bracket

Foes become friends (it's usually the other way around in cornhole) as the top two point scorers from each group continue as partners in the double-elimination bracket. Oh, and you are not just playing for each other, but for your entire group to get paid! If you like this twist, thank Rich Queen; if not, you can blame him!

Entry Fees and Payouts

Entry fee is set at just $10 per person with 80% payout. The number of groups to be paid is TBD. Also, this format and the capacity of the building limits us to 48 players.

Food and Beverage

All alcoholic beverages must be purchased from the K of C bar. Any parking lot drinking will result in an immediate Red Card! The K of C does not sell food so you are encouraged to pack a lunch. It is possible that we may place a pizza order for $5/person, but that is not a definite. Please plan accordingly.
