Coming to a slot machine near you...

It was a full tilt of cornhole this past week; not bad for the middle of winter! The show kicked off Tuesday night at Great American Tavern, site of our weekly tournaments. This week was a repeat of the previous one with Lance and Mike celebrating in the winner's circle after an undefeated night. The champs spiked the football with a 21-0 rout of Ken and Cindy in the finals. Moments later Ken was back in the spotlight with four chances at the Money Shot. Like those before him, he couldn't put any sacks in the hole! Despite shooting blanks in the Money Shot and a loss in the finals, the North Reading Nightmare could not be discouraged as he stopped Lance's run in Last Man Standing by holding off a game Rob. The night finished with a blind draw, double-dip victory for Mike Doherty and Phil over Lance and Rob Doherty.

The scene shifted to Danvers on Saturday for a tournament to benefit the high school softball team. Kudos to Senior, Devyn Downs, for organizing a great tournament and warmly welcoming some Boston Cornhole teams in to the draw. The tournament of 20 teams soon turned in to an exhibition of two. After splitting two matches, it was Lance and Mike vs Mike D. and Rob D. for all the marbles. The familiar foes battled it out in a back and forth affair that came down not only to a frame, but a single bag! Final score: 21-20 for Lance and Mike in an intense and somewhat emotional finish.

Less than 24 hours later, a confident Mike and Lance had visions of #hattrick trending on Twitter against a slightly more competitive field in Maynard. Unfortunately, what happened in Danvers stayed in Danvers! The duo put up an 0-2 effort and were quickly turned in to spectators, #letdown. Well, enough about the losers, this tournament had some of the area's best tossers in attendance. Once again, it was 40 Plus at the top of the pecking order enjoying yet another undefeated outing. Rounding out the top three were the Rhody Brothers and the Norton Gods. Looks like the best teams from 2013 will be making some more noise in 2014! Andy Gomes and Mike Lowell split the Money Shot with each hitting two bags. In Last Man Standing, yours truly ousted a couple of guys from "The Wu" at a single sack. Top teams, some new competitors from Hudson, and food donated to the Maynard Food Pantry...all in all a successful event hosted by Boston Cornhole and McKinnon Cornhole Boards!
