Wise Guys notch a road victory
Add Indiana to the growing list of states whose residents have made a Boston Cornhole stop in the past month. Friday night belonged to the "Wise Guys", the father and son team of Terry and KC, as they topped the 19 team field in The One Fund Boston Cornhole Tournament in Woburn. After an early setback, the Midwestern duo stormed out of the loser's bracket to double-dip Team 251 in the finals for the $500 prize. Despite holding an 8-0 lead in the opening match of the finals, Cindy "Boots" Boutiette and Mr. Boston Cornhole were not Boston Strong enough to hold off the visitors. After playing with these guys twice this week, I think the moniker "Nice Guys" would be more appropriate. Great to see these nice guys finish first and hope they can join us again sometime!
Friday night also marked the end of "The Streak"! Woburn powerhouse, 40 Plus, watched the finals from the sidelines as they dropped close matches to both of the night's top two teams. While inevitable, at times it seemed improbable that a night would end without a 40 Plus victory. Gracious in victory, the champs were also gracious in defeat. I am sure they will be ready to go next Sunday in Peabody for the Giving Hope Cornhole Tournament. Rather than gloat following a victory over Goliath, let's celebrate the state of cornhole in Boston; we are building something special! The improvement in the quality of play has been remarkable over the past six months. For those of you outside of the Boston area, Titletown has the Duck Boats on standby!
Tournament Results:
1. Wise Guys (Terry and KC) - $500
2. Team 251 (Cindy and Mike) - $50 Gift Certificate
3. Lord and Savior (Ken and PJ) - Pat on the back
Honorable mention goes to The Taunton Tosser, Jeff Bachand, who made the most of the "After Party" by taking Last Man Standing and the Blind Draw Tourney with PJ.
