New faces, good competition, and an upset!

Freddie and Skip got the win on a hot day!
As a tournament director, sometimes your biggest opponent in outdoor tournaments is the weather. And the week before our inaugural tournament at Arooga's in Attleboro, Mother Nature was looking pretty formidable with a one-two punch of extreme heat and a threatening late thunderstorm. I remember being drenched with sweat and a little light headed after configuring the courts. The heat was real, but luckily the rain held off. And with 50 teams and 3.5 hours of play, it turned out to be a wonderful afternoon!
On to the Competition
The first team to arrive, was the last to leave as Freddie Schulz and Skip Easterbrooks survived a tough draw and an early loss to storm through the loser's bracket all the way to the winner's circle! Along the way, they built quite the impressive resume by knocking off the teams of Chris Picariello & Tim Grew and Shorty & Mike Silva to reach the finals. The comeback culminated with a double-dip of Chris Tornatola and Jim Bottis in the finals. I never care who wins, but sometimes it's good to see an upset! Along with the usual suspects on the podium, the Attleboro tournament introduced me to some seasoned players from Fall River and a new group from Attleboro who are now on the circuit!
An Important Partnership
While this was a great 50 team tournament, it was more than that for Boston Cornhole as it served as a successful introduction of cornhole to a business that has the resources to really promote the game. To me, that's very important. We look forward to working with Arooga's in the new year and stay tuned for a cornhole league beginning February 5th in Attleboro!
